THE SS16 STORY

The 2016 spring season's designs were complete and the leathers chosen by the time my family and I stepped onto the beach on Coronado Island early last summer. The bright, yet natural hues that I was drawn to for the spring collection -  the burnt orange, the soft grey, the mint, the blush - reminded me of spring at the beach. I grew up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and spent many years on the gulf coast of Florida, so the beach is a part of me. It's not all sand and water. It's umbrellas and towels, swimsuits and sunsets. In North Carolina, it's wild horses and boardwalks.

I wasn't scouting a location last summer in San Diego, (I was taking our son to Legoland), but when I stumbled upon the magnificent rocks, boulders really, that had nestled themselves on the beach in Coronado, I knew I had found the perfect backdrop for spring. My husband thought I was nuts, "You want to come back here in a month with a crew?!? You know we have beaches that we can drive to."

I couldn't be happier with how it all turned out, and I am thrilled to finally be able to release the collection. It's my most modern, yet functional collection to date, but most of all, it is of the ocean, of the sand, and born from all the memories in between.
